A Golfers Worst Enemy
Romanticising humdrum and poking fun at most anything accessible, she’s apparently nicer in person. Gin Wife is a solo Indie Rock artist, whose newest track was inspired by a somewhat anger-inducing trip to a golf range with her stepfather. Her new single ‘Pro Golfers’ Feels like warm youthful summer nights personified, however it is anything but. I finished listening to ‘Pro Golfers’ with one question in mind: Who is actually this in love with the sort of man described in the track?
I should’ve realised this from the beginning, the sarcastic rage was almost hitting me in the face. With lines like “your wife’s half your age” and “athletic champion, you make my heart soar” Gin Wife is mocking this particular subset of men although doing it while serenading them, essentially saying you wouldn’t get this even if you rubbed your 2 last brain cells together.
This tone is thanks to her effortlessly glittery vocals. Like diamond sequins, they shine. The drums come in as if you’re beating down a pro golfer with your very own club, with the electric guitar riding in, completing the atmosphere of this rage-fuelled melody.
Gin Wife has released 2 singles so far, with the third (‘Pro Golfers’) out and ready to listen to. Evolving with each new track, getting more playful and introspective than the previous, I can’t wait to see where she takes her music sonically in the future.
