After ‘Brasse, Tot Laat Toe’s‘ successful debut at the 2026 Suidoosterfees, it begins its official run at The Baxter Theatre this August. The play tells the story of Luqmaan, who is met with an unexpected visit by his former friend, Junaid, during the evening of the forty-nights memorial for his late wife. They have not seen eachother in more than 6 years and as a result of the uninformed visit, both men are forced to confront difficult truths about their friendship, betrayals and the lives they have built apart from eachother.

Writer Zubayr Charles mentions, “The play explores the themes of growing older, betrayal, family disputes and friendship. These subjects are particularly important, because the story is told from a male perspective. We hope the production encourages men, both young and old, to communicate openly, confront unresolved pain and recognise the value of friendship.” Written in Kaaps, the script is personified through physical theatre and the extraordinary direction of Carlos Daniels. The plays shifts between various nostalgic and humorous periods in Luqmaan and Junaid’s lives, right from their Saturday detentions as teens to their lives as men in their mid-thirties.

Director Carlo mentions, “The play is also a slice of Muslim culture and Cape Town culture that we don’t often see represented on stage. I haven’t seen anything like this on stage in quite a while, and that’s what makes it so refreshing. This process has been really fulfilling.”

The production features a stellar cast and creative team. It is written by Zubayr Charles, a 2026 Cape Town Theatre Awards nominee for Best New Director, and directed by Carlo Daniels, the 2026 Cape Town Theatre Awards winner for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical. The cast comprises Anzio September, the 2026 Cape Town Theatre Awards nominee for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama, and exciting newcomer Abdullatief Davids. Lighting design is by Franky Steyn, the 2025 Cape Town Theatre Awards winner for Lighting Design, with original music by Salie Charles.
