After the thunderous and abrupt end to Kunda‘s Chapter 2 on Saturday morning, two years ago, in the 173ml of rainfall in over 24hrs, the Botrivier flooded and so much of the special Diepklowe conservancy and the host space of Porcupine Hills was damaged and terraformed by the raging waters and rain.

The night before had been charged with such promise, the venue was incredible and the people and atmosphere was exactly what one could come to expect from one of the best boutique and intimate events in Cape Town.

Gorgeous hues of colours and cultures, friends seeing friends, making new ones, and exploring the lovingly crafted festival space – making the following morning and the subsequent evacuation that followed, to best insure the safety and security of the festival goers and crew, that much harder to accept. The Kunda Valley team however used this natural calamity, to grow stronger, much like the natural process of the valley itself and used the rains to flower new life. And so! Chapter 3! The 13th to the 17th of November, the community are back at it, recrafting the festival to have grown in the grooves of the newly shaped land. 

What we know for now is that Chapter 3 is going to be different. With all of what we loved from the first two installations, the Kunda team have continued to grow and nurture the intimate feel and connection that the Fest embodies. From the long term structure builds lovingly done over months, the art and vibrant dressings that add depth, from notebooks and pendants delicately decorating to the cheeky little pop up spaces that fill the wide range of areas inside the Valley, not to mention the absolutely outstanding curation and music lineups.

While the year still looms out of ahead us, this is definitely an event we focus on to get through this scary looking Winter and take us out into Summer.
