Luminiah Resists Limerance On Sultry Latest Release.
There’s a certain melancholy to early winter that you rarely feel at other points in the year; the bite in the air makes you consider the lack of companionship that seemingly plagues this era, but sometimes that companionship doesn’t pan out. This is what Luminiah goes into in her song, Chapter 1: Out of Time – a deep rumination on the discomfort felt by being idealised by a new lover.
The song opens with lively synth keys that transition into a bellowing bass line that almost wraps around you as the listener. The instrumental builds on itself very well and is complemented heavily by Luminiah’s sultry and smooth vocal delivery, which goes to emphasise the care that she is placing in delivering her feelings of the imbalance in her relationship with this person.
The lyrics function well enough to illustrate the necessity and urgency of Luminiah having to leave this somewhat smothering relationship with this individual, and the almost disassociation she feels in having to engage with this person on a romantic level. Her desire to push back feels justified and necessary for both her and her partner to grow.
The 23-year-old, New Mexico-raised Luminiah is a very interesting voice in the Alternative R&B music scene, as her roots in singing the Blues with her grandfather shine through in her heartfelt, witty delivery. Her music has a rich, personal feeling to it, which makes me very eager to see what else she may have in store for the future.
