“I don’t make Hyperpop I make DMT.”

Friday is almost always an exciting day, you’ve made it through your responsibilities for the week, and it’s time to recuperate, spend time with loved ones and let loose in whichever way you choose. Last Friday, the 22nd of August 2025, was a particularly great Friday as Jaxobz released his new EP ‘Teeth‘ which sees him continuing his sonic evolution and bringing a new wave of EDM crossed with just enough of a Rock and Hyperpop-infused twang to never feel derivative or predictable.

J-J-Jaxobz (first heard on ‘SNAKE SKIN !’) echoes the autotuned opening producer tag of ‘Nino’ over the skittering initial drum pattern, before the introduction of an irresistibly wobbly bass line. The track is a flourishing start that establishes the EP‘s serotonin-filled, PS2 game soundtrack-esque tone and braggadocious delivery.

Track two is lead single ‘Teeth, a blistering, genre-blending track that teased the EP‘s sound with its French House-inspired synths, and Hyperpop-fuelled chaos into. With autotuned vocals, rapid-fire delivery, and irresistibly catchy hooks, the track feels like stepping into a sweaty, hedonistic warehouse rave where Funktion Ones rattle and bodies lose control. Laced with anime and video game-inspired imagery, ‘Teeth‘ showcases Jaxobz’s ability to craft a sound that’s as chaotic as it is sleek.

Alyson‘, another dope collaboration with Durban-based Swoger, carries on the dynamic energy from ‘Nino‘ and ‘Teeth’. Jaxobz production is extra Punkish, driven by grungy guitar riffs and soaring synth lines. Jaxobz and Swoger trade verses about a ‘a manic pixie dreamgirl’ style ex-partner.

Track 7, ‘Punching out the Air Goodbye‘ was one of the most interesting tracks production-wise, with its driving guitars and off-kilter wobbling synth lines. Metal Lung‘ is a fitting finale to ‘Teeth’ with an EDM Rage sound that feels like the euphoric crescendo of a rave. The track is filled with the best elements of Jaxobz‘ different sounds, combining mesmerising synth lines with searing guitar riffs and some super interesting vocal effects.  Lyrically Jaxobz’ tells as otherworldly a story as his production through the lens of a mechanical love affair, as he sings “we like some robots cos we kinda got metal love“.

Teeth‘ saw Jaxobz elevate his sound further, refining the sounds we heard on his last full-length project ‘, Octupus Salad‘, along with bringing in more EDM influences, leading to a sound made for the rave dancefloor. The EP manages to delve into a wide spectrum of styles whilst retaining a cohesive sound and narrative. Once again, Jaxobz has shown why he is one of the most exciting young artists and producers in Cape Town.
