If you haven’t heard of him already, Robbie Perrott is a South African singer-songwriter currently based in Cape Town. His music occupies the space between alternative folk, psychedelic rock, and indie to encompass introspective, guitar-led songwriting with a lyrical preoccupation on how to live properly in a difficult world. His lyrics are definitively South African, with casual colloquialisms that add a dash of charm and authenticity.

Perrott’s solo recording career began in 2015 with a run of singles (Hedging Frets, Death to Cool, Someone Like You) before his debut album Hypersleep arrived in 2020. His second album Ramble Moon followed in October 2025, recorded in London with Wazoo Baden-Powell (drums, production) and Mali Baden-Powell (recording, mixing, production) — the team behind Biodiversity Studios in South London. Mini Town was recorded a week after Ramble Moon. Also at Biodiveristy with Wazoo and Mali. But with Alex Pittkin on bass. “It’s like the sunnier more extroverted little brother of ramble moon, which is darker and more introspective” says Robbie.

With the arrival of Mini Town, the undeniable talent and versatility of Robbie marks his recent rise in both his solo and collaborative projects as nothing short of exciting. Honestly, just keep giving us more, we’re absolutely Robbie for crazy. I mean, crazy for Robbie. 😉

Self-sabotage is almost as innately human as breathing, eating or thinking. No matter how much work we put into ourselves it can feel as if there is an overpowering urge to slip back into harmful old patterns of behaviour.‘The Reaper’ which opens Texas Rock trio little image’s second album Kill The Ghost, is a poignant anthem to defeating inner demons and becoming the best version of yourself.

The track starts with a gentle piano melody in a subtle opening that allows vocalist Jackson Simmons‘ hauntingly emotional reflection on a past relationship to take centre stage. You can feel the weight of emotion in his pained voice as he sings “Used to talk it out but now you call the lawyer“. After the sparse yet powerful beginning, the driving drums enter with a nostalgic guitar riff alongside the impassioned chorus.

“As soon as we wrote ‘KILL THE GHOST,’ it became like a mantra for us,” says drummer Troy Bruner. “It’s a call to let go of whatever’s holding you back from being who you truly are, and we all felt passionate that it should be one of the defining statements for the album.”

Recently I have been engulfed in an emotion best described as nostalgia. Every now and again I slip into that bittersweet feeling that encompasses reviewing vivid memories of my past. Akin to flipping through a memory album, taking in each photo slowly and noticing the off white tint that has developed on the frames of some. When I first heard Castilho’s music, it felt reminiscent of what I had been feeling. Through his artistic sound, and musical skill, he creates a soundscape that is rich and at the same time blue, much like a memory.

His track ‘Tripé’ evokes those same sentiments I mentioned previously. Embodying a harmonic sound that is created with electric instruments and other percussive reverberations, the song forms an illusory auditory environment that is both feel-good, and nostalgic. Castilho utilizes his creativity by reinventing the classic Brazilian Bossa Nova by incorporating unique synthesizers to handle the harmonies, instead of relying on acoustic elements, making it so that you get caught in a musically articulate dreamscape.

DECO is a well established indie-pop band that emerged onto the scene just under a decade ago. They have been curating and developing a sound that is inspired by 2010’s dance music yet still very much their own. With their newest single ‘You’re So Beautiful’ off of their upcoming album ‘Dreamhouse‘ they explore the idea of underappreciating yourself and those around you with an up-beat spin over a strong synth-pop sound.

It starts off with a soft rolling piano and transitions into a blissful synth that plays on the heart strings which makes me want to drive into the sunset on a warm summer’s day – complemented by simple yet effective pop drums that evokes my shoulders to bounce from side to side. The vocals and lyrics acted as a sweet twist to a somber subject that was displayed with intention and made the track feel whole. This song resonates with me as it touches on an emotional realisation that I have recently been experiencing throughout the long unraveling rabbit hole which is love. DECO have an exceptional and playful approach to indie-pop that portrays a lot of individuality and character that will take them far on any road that they plan to walk, marking them as a promising group that I will definitely keep an ear out for, and I believe you should too.
