Avalon’s Poignant Alt-Pop Track ‘Sydney’ Deals With The Difficulty Of Mourning A Friend While They’re Still Alive.
A reflection of the beautiful tragedy of being human. Raised in Studio City in a home steeped in creativity, 20-year-old singer-songwriter Avalon’s latest release ‘Sydney‘, brilliantly defies the boundaries of Alt Pop through an explosion of orchestral sounds and emotion. Listening to this track felt like being enveloped in another human being’s pain and mourning, like a blanket once warm and filled with vibrant colour now grey, abandoned and torn.
Written as a mournful goodbye to a childhood friendship, ‘Sydney’ bravely tackles the feeling of mourning someone dear to you while they’re still alive. “This song is so many things: It’s a time capsule, a love letter, an apology and an overdue proper goodbye to someone I will love for the rest of my life.” Said Avalon in a recent interview.
This whole track feels so personal peering into moments in one’s life like a fly who’s negated their security clearance to the wall. This track illustrates the importance of confronting the uncomfortable and the gratification and release that can come from such actions. Brought through brilliantly by the ever-so impactful instrumental, its ambient atmosphere hard hard-hitting drums and crying strings combine with Avalon’s angelic vocals, bringing the track together in a subtly beautiful manner.
In a time filled with such brazen inauthenticity, Avalon feels like a breath of fresh of air, bringing time, care and passion into her art. Beyond her music, Avalon’s passions lie in film photography and charity work.
“Music is the only way I truly feel heard or seen, It helps me heal, especially if it’s coming from a real place. Quite honestly, I just can’t imagine my life without music.” – Avalon
