Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys’ Latest Track Offers Ambient Art Pop Sounds To Reflect To.

Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys, a Berlin based group fronted by South African-born guitarist and vocalist Lucy Kruger, are taking ambient Art Pop to new heights. Drifting between the introverted and ecstatic, the atmosphere they create sounds like something out of an alternate dimension where guitars are used as forks. The quartet have released 6 albums and 3 EPs so far. Narrative-driven storytelling is prevalent throughout their discography and entices the listener into an overarching tale. Each song is curated with excellent production, taking you to a place you’ve never been before. Lucy Kruger and The Lost Boys make music for your subconscious. Hearing the ensemble’s latest single, ‘Reaching’, for the first time felt as if I’d stumbled upon an underground show that takes place inside a deep basement.

Open the hatch and climb right in. Lucy‘s hushed, moody vocals float through your ears like a needle on a thread, the grungy guitar lulling you into a haze, the kick drum beating you into submission. The building calm anxiety of her vocals sits you down into a dream of her own making.

The simple yet powerful lyric “silence” is repeated through the track being a through line to the excellent adrenaline-fueled crescendo, which feels melodically and cathartically right and makes me want to relive the listening experience again from beginning to end.

Lucy Kruger And The Lost Boys - 'Reaching' review

The quartet also does their fair share of touring around Europe and Germany, bringing an intimate atmosphere to their live performance. There’s something very Neo Noir about their visuals, while simultaneously still feeling shrouded in something undecipherable, leaving you room to wonder and creating a further depth and texture to the ever-evolving soundscapes of the music. Sending you ever so slowly down the illustrious rabbit hole that is this distinctively mesmerising act.

As Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys progress further with each new release, they continue to fine-tune a soundscape and feeling that I can’t imagine hearing anywhere else. The way that the music pushes and pulls you. Like a siren calling to home. Challenging you in vivacious ways. An enigma for sure, but not an undecipherable one. I will surely be on the edge of my seat for whatever Lucy and the band release next.
