Your tannie’s favourite moustachioed maverick is back with another heater, RICKY‘s latest single ‘High Roller‘, is here and you can’t ignore it. This sharp Indie Pop anthem is a sardonic ode to the rock and roll lifestyle and its pitfalls. Over soaring riffs, driving drums, and some delightful synth lines the new main man on the scene reflects on his meteoric rise, enticing a new sweetheart into his lifestyle as he croons, “Come over, I’ll show you my things all the diamonds and rings that wrap my fingers”.

The chorus of “Oh, make up your mind you don’t wanna waste your time. Sex and internet, always something to regret.” is a catchy earworm which hints at a less enjoyable side to RICKY‘s fame.

Beneath its initially upbeat and fun sound lies a darker meaning, as RICKY grapples with the travails of newfound success. This comes to the surface during the transition at 01:53 where the guitars and drums slow to a gentle yet foreboding melody over which a dazed RICKY ponders the meaninglessness of it all through pitched-down distorted vocals.

Whilst RICKY is not someone you should trust with your car (unless it’s a Toyota Supra), High Roller was a highly enjoyable listen with many layers below the surface. Give it a listen now!!
