I first stumbled upon Ruby Waters‘ music almost 4 years ago, when we first signed up as a curator on the music submission platform Submithub back in 2022. An absolute gem of a track, Ruby‘s ‘Heather‘ is a raw and heartfelt ode to a lost love, featuring her raw vocals over strummed guitar and a simple yet powerful music video of her singing in a bathroom. When I saw a new release from Waters‘ pop up I was immediately intrigued to see where her sound had progressed over the past few years.

The new release, ‘GET A GRIP‘ immediately grabbed me with its shimmering opening synth line and when Ruby Waters‘ characteristically raspy yet delicate and emotion-filled vocals came in I felt it all at once. The track captures the difficulty of juggling work, relationships and mental health in the chaos of modern day life through Waters’ vulnerable, poignant yet funny lyricism.

The production feels like Tame Impala meets Dream Pop with a twist of RnB, in a soundscape driven by luscious synths, woozy basslines and rhythmic drums. Waters‘ shows an incredible ability to meld genres whilst exploring relatable struggles with a sharp sense of humor.

It felt like quite a full circle moment coming back to Ruby Waters‘ music and I was blown away to see the much deserved success she has achieved over the past few years. She has truly grown into an Alt-Popstar of note, gaining recognition with her latest EP ‘What’s The Point‘ along with a run of incredible singles over the past year.
