HuemanBeingDesign’s Artistic Palette Is A Visual Feast.
HuemanBeingDesign (Mbongeni Fongoqa) is a talented visual artist and graphic designer based in Johannesburg. An expressive and imaginative art style characterises his work. His designs and, in particular, his yellow characters are straight out of a video game in the best possible way. We love the way he creates an intimate universe inside each of his canvasses.
In March of this year, Mbongeni hosted a creative workshop at the Origin Art gallery with the intention of teaching other artists to embrace imperfections and unlock their unique styles. A multifaceted creative, Mbongeni also prints shirts with his designs on them. According to him, he is best able to express his emotions and thoughts through the scope of art.
There’s a real sense of play in HuemanBeingDesign’s work. From the layered brushstrokes to the offbeat shapes and hyper-stylised characters, everything feels like it’s moving, even when it’s still. His art doesn’t try to be perfect. Instead, it leans into the rawness, the surreal, and the strange, making space for emotion over precision.
There’s a throughline of colour, character, and curiosity that pulls you in. Each piece feels like a moment from a larger world, one that’s still being built in real time. Watching his journey as an artist unfold is a reminder that art isn’t just something we look at, it’s something we live in.
