Realism Course @ Kaapstad Toneelhuis
Winter is an unwelcome time of the year for most working actors. By the time June rolls around, the casting-packed days of Season and the concept of an audience willing to leave the house for an 8 PM show seem like a hazy fever dream. In these moments, it is hard to resist the tug of LinkedIn and thoughts of, “should I have rather studied law?” but this is the perfect time to fling yourself into the most important thing you can do for your career: keep learning.
This July, Kaapstad Toneelhuis Acting Studio and award-winning director, writing and acting instructor Francesco Nassimbeni are returning with the third instalment of the Realism Course. Emerging and professional actors are invited to delve into their own practice, guided by realism’s traditional and contemporary teachings.
Nassimbeni’s work as a writer and director over various mediums has been recognised locally and internationally. As an acting teacher, he is known for his exacting standards, poetic insight, and ability to unlock emotional truth in performance.
“This course is a deep dive into authenticity,” he says. “Realism is more than just natural speech or movement. It’s about stripping away pretence to find what’s real, both in the character and in the actor.”
Revisit Stanislavsky and Strasberg, as well as modern practitioners, through intensive scene study, monologues, and exercises that will allow you to sink your teeth into the nitty-gritty of character development and text analysis.
This intimate space provides a unique opportunity for you to focus purely on honing your skills, rather than a time-pressured or financially-motivated outcome.
Space is limited so be sure to secure your spot today by contacting admin@kaapstadtoneelhuis.com.
